Guangzhou has commenced the fifth development phase at its Nansha port, marking a substantial $2 billion expansion project. Main construction on this ambitious undertaking officially began on Friday.
Enhancing Deep-Water Capacity
The extensive development plan involves constructing four new berths specifically designed to accommodate ultra-large container ships. These state-of-the-art facilities will handle vessels capable of exceeding 21,000 TEUs, significantly boosting the port’s capacity for the world’s largest carriers.
Guangzhou's Nansha port began a $2 billion fifth-phase expansion, adding four deep-water berths for ultra-large container ships and fifteen for feeder vessels. This project will significantly boost capacity and connectivity, cementing Nansha's role as a crucial maritime hub.
Boosting Regional Connectivity
In addition to these deep-water berths, the project will incorporate 15 new berths dedicated to regional feeder vessels. This crucial element aims to bolster the port’s connectivity across its extensive regional network, ensuring more efficient cargo distribution and collection.
